Leaf electricity pylons

Graham

Whilst completing a bit of research this week I stumbled upon a competition which challenged the design industry to come up with a series of proposals for a new generation of electricity pylons. The brief also stated that the solution needed to address the needs of the surrounding communities whilst preserving the beauty of the countryside. The solution from Morgan Sindall with its’ ‘leaf’ concept for me ticks these boxes as the design is clever, beautiful and very effective.

Sherlock - BBC programme

Tim

My choice of favourite this week is the new series of ‘Sherlock’ currently being televised by the BBC. I wasn’t sure at first if I’d like the programme as I’ve grown accustomed to the Basil Rathbone Victorian era version of Sherlock Holmes complete with tweed clothing, deerstalker cap and smoking pipe along and his bumbling idiot sidekick, Doctor Watson. However, the modern day reinvention thanks to the performances of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman I’m happy to find are thoroughly entertaining. If you’ve missed the series, I’d highly recommend you watch it.

Duedil - useful application

Huw

My favourite this week is the Duedil app which provides financial business information directly from Companies House in an easy to access digital format. Very useful and very well designed.
