Welcome to the journal section of huwdavid.net. This is a place for me to talk about stuff. Usually design related, often light hearted and sometimes complete and utter nonsense. Basically I aim to use this journal as a place to talk about whatever pops into my head.

Still want to be a part of it

Have to say that I am still excited and full of adrenaline after my recent trip to New York. It is without question the best city I have ever been to. So much to see and do, just so little time to do it. I found it to be a truly inspirational place. Can’t wait to go back. It is difficult to name all the highlights – there were so many. All I can say is that I would recommend anyone to go there, at least once!

The levels of service, the way the city keeps on moving (even when the air temperature reaches –21° with thick snow on the ground), the impressive buildings and the Manhattan skyline, the value for money the great times we both had means its a place that I simply have to go back to.

All booked up and ready to go

Finally got hold of the train tickets, so that’s the travel part sorted. Now all I need is my packed lunch and laptop. Why’s this? Well for the Future of Web Design 07 Conference being held on April 18 in London of course.

The future's bright

Happy New Year everyone! 2006 was such an eventful year and 2007 promises to be packed with even more excitement. I've got a trip to New York to look forward to in February (joint Christmas and birthday present from my fiancé, Helen), followed by our wedding in August.

Coinciding with all of this is the work being undertaken on our house — which we hope will all be finished in June.

Obviously I will also be putting more and more energy into my work and business as I look to expand and offer more services and capabilities. So, there is a very busy year ahead. Personally, I can't wait.

Looking to the future

I have just completed my first year of self employment and I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The experience has been challenging, exciting, humbling and rewarding. I can honestly say that making the decision to become my own boss is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I am enjoying my new way of life immensely. However it's anticipated that this 'honeymoon period' will not last forever. So with this in mind it is important for me to continue planning for the future. My immediate plans are simple. To continue doing what I've been doing these last twelve months and to meet more people who share the same passion for design and who I can work with as a team.

Long term who knows? A bigger office, more designers working alongside me, a place where inspiration and creativity rules and where the demands of clients from all over the world can be met? That sounds quite nice.

Presenting my journal

Well here it is, the first entry in my journal! What a moment eh? I plan to use this journal to document progression of not only this site but my personal and professional development. Is it too ambitious of me? Will I have time to complete regular posts? Well time will tell — but at least I’m starting with good intentions.
